UNDERSTANDING THE NATURE COUNTER
WHAT IS NATURE COUNTER?
Nature Counter is a public health initiative striving to educate people on the many health and nootropic benefits of spending time in nature while creating a mobile application to track user time in nature and building a healthy nature habit.
ULTIMATE GOAL OF NATURE COUNTER
Our ultimate goal is to create a global health movement, sharing the physical, mental, emotional and nootropic benefits of being in nature with the world! Our hope is to reduce the world’s dependency on medication and encourage more people to use nature as a means to address some of the world's largest health issues. Many doctors are already prescribing nature dose to patients.
WHO'S ON THE TEAM?
The Nature Counter team is a powerhouse of talent from many career fields. We have software developers, instructional designers, UI/UX designers, data and research analysts, marketing professionals, business development professionals, and project managers.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are always looking for passionate individuals who want to change the world and feel their experience could align with the Nature Counter mission. Even if you feel your experience doesn't fit within the current roles, we'd still be happy to have you and collaborate together!
WHEN DO WE MEET?
Since our team is so large, we have sub-team meetings held during the week, and you only attend the meetings that are germane to your specific role in the project. You are always welcome to join any Nature Counter meeting, we just want to ensure you feel the meetings you are attending are in alignment with your goals for the project. All group meetings are held on Wednesday at 12pm EST and Sunday at 1:15pm EST.
MORE ABOUT MEETINGS
Besides the large-group meetings, there are many other sub-team meetings held during the week. When you join the Nature Counter team, you'll learn more about the specific meeting days/times that align with your aspect of the project. For example, the marketing team meets on Monday evenings. Software development meets on Thursday evenings. The research team meets on Friday afternoons.
COMMUNICATION & TEAMWORK
On the Nature Counter team, you will have the opportunity to work with many different communication software programs. Our large-group meetings are conducted using Google Hangouts (Wednesday) and Microsoft Teams (Sunday). The software development team uses Discord for their meetings.
FILE STORAGE & COLLABORATION
Our files are primarily stored in Google Drive. We also use Microsoft Office, although the majority of our work is stored in Google. The Project Management team uses GitLab to store PM related files. The UI/UX team uses Figma to create mock ups of the mobile app. To collaborate, we use both Slack and Microsoft Teams. Some sub- teams also use Trello.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
You will get to put your awesome skills and talents to work and learn all about the benefits of nature. Did you know that spending just 30 minutes in nature can lower your blood pressure by 9%? Or that those living within 1 km of green space (nature) had an overall higher quality of life?
